I Know, I Know… Stop Telling Me I Need to Live In “The Now”.

If you love reading self-help books and spending time on expanding your mind and life, you’ve probably run into the concept of living in “the now” on several occasions.

Why is this such a hot phrase right now? What does it entail, why do we so badly need to live in “the now”, and why can’t we just live like we’ve always done?

Let me tell you the truth

Living in “the now”, living mindfully, living in the moment, being present – surprise, surprise – is one of the most important aspects of creating the life that you long for so much…

It’s not just a “hot” phrase…

Living with our mind stuck in the past or focused on what might go wrong in the future, will keep us from living right now.

Even though a quick thought about that same old negative memory (from 10 years ago) might seem like a minor thing, and not something that will have a huge impact on the outcome of your life, it does have a much bigger impact than you might think…

What we do every second of every minute of every day matters and is shaping how our life unfolds.

You can’t change the past

Of course, what happened in the past – even just one minute ago – no longer matters. The past is just a story we keep telling ourselves; it doesn’t exist anymore. Neither does the future – what’s happening in an hour, tomorrow, or next year is just a figment of our imagination. What matters is this precious moment right now. This second. That’s all!

Re-living a memory – bad or good – is energy, and the energy you use to re-live something bad – that is in the past and no longer is your reality nor something you can go back and change – is lost energy.

So, imagine if you relocated all that energy – the energy you waste, by obsessing over the past or worrying about the future – and instead used it to focus on what you do have a chance to impact… The present moment. Imagine what you could create/do with that extra energy and focus…

“When you realize that you don’t have to stress out over what happened in the past, and that the future doesn’t exist yet, you are left with this beautiful, expansive space in the middle, where infinite possibilities are at your fingertips. How exciting! This is where the magic lies, right here in this moment…” Melissa Ambrosini

Do you find yourself stuck in the past or worrying about the future? Are you ready to try and say adios to wasting your energy on something you can’t change?

Did this post spark something in you, something you are ready to change, or do you still think that “living in the moment” is a hot phrase that really doesn’t have an impact on the quality of your life? I would love to hear your thoughts on this in the comment section below.
